With everyone wondering what Apple will reveal about the next-generation iPhone at the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, there is debate over whether the new iPhone will feature some sort of video messaging, with perhaps a video camera lens on the face of the iPhone.
Apple may be working on video messaging, giving users the ability to send short clips to each other. Think YouTube, delivered.
— Scott Moritz
An iPhone with video messaging capability might have a lens on the face, and use the 3G chipset to send the video.
Some blogs question the usefulness of such a feature, but I can think of situations where people would like to send video clips. Here are three:
-
While traveling.
From 3,000 miles away, I could send a video message like “Hey Dad, check out this view. You would love this place.”
-
While shopping.
Imagine your partner sends you a video message from a fitting room. “Which of these looks better on me?”
-
On the road.
e.g. a video message from you to a friend: “I can’t find the place. Is this the neighborhood?”
If Apple introduced video messaging on iPhone, they would set a new precedent for the future of mobile phones.
Would you video message?
Is video messaging pointless? Or does it add an appreciable intimacy to our digital interactions?
When would you use video messaging if it were on your iPhone?
I would love to hear your opinion in the comments.
P.S. I will add needed links later. This post was written on my iPhone. Shame on Apple for leaving out a copy/paste function. Blogging on the iPhone is hard work!

On the whole, I'm pretty disappointed with it. Hardware wise, it's finally caught up to the Blackjack II. Same crappy camera, and no added screen resolution. No mention of video recording capability either. At least they finally added a GPS. I would've liked to see a front facing camera and a sooner release date. And I'm not sure how much I believe the battery life claims.
To meet that price point around the world, surely the phone must be subsidized. That means theres an unlock to come.
So who can get me one before July 11? I'll make good use of it...

It looks like Popcorn Hour's
C-200 media streamer is making its way into end-users' hands, so prepare yourself for a flurry of reviews. Our friend Brent over at GeekTonic should be jumping into the fray soon, and has kicked things off with a preview. Yeah, the C-200 is bigger than its sibling
A-100, but it brings so much to the table that we'd say Popcorn Hour has packed in just as much -- if not more -- goodness per cubic inch. With space available for a hard and/or Blu-ray drive, wired and wireless networking, and USB ports to round out the input connectivity, the C-200 then adds a smorgasbord of codec support just to make sure your bits will survive the translation back into entertainment. With the "it plays anything" kind of capability the C-200 is promising, we've got a feeling that a positive review or two might be the only thing standing between us and a $300 dent in our credit cards.

Andrew Jones asked: Today, when we think of iPhone client applications (app) what comes to mind are iPhone client SIP applications. This is because the capability to access voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) is a relatively new development for the iPhone. SIP (session initiation protocol), a powerful multimedia protocol, is far from new and applications [...]

At first I thought this website was all about tricked out garages that cost more than $100,000 to build, which also would have been a cool website. However that is not the case for www.100kgarages.com which is actually a site dedicated to the small fabricators across the country.
The idea is that a network of small and medium size fab shops all connected together would allow any crazy eyed individual within the network to have the capacity of a large manufacturing plant at their finger tips. For instance if you prototyped a product (you don’t even need your own equipment, checkout www.columbusideafoundry.com in Central Ohio) and wanted to sell a million of that product through a website, you could load the plans on the network and those from all over with capacity could manufacturer the product. This helps the person who needs manufacturing capability and also those with down time, to utilize their equipment and make a few extra bucks.
So far the network is centered around the Shopbot CNC router machines which makes sense but could, in the future, be applied to CNC Mills, Laser Cutters, Water-Jet, etc. There are endless possibilities to the technology and as it develops, new possibilities will continue to arise. The website www.ponoko.com brings everything together with material suppliers, creative folks and even buyers.
