The popular mid '70s TV show, Land of the Lost, featured a place in which time forgot â?? where dinosaurs, Pakuni cavemen and reptile/lizard Sleestaks roamed. We watched the re-runs of this series when we were kids and were absolutely amazed. Flash forward to today. We don't have the slightest clue where all of these photos of lost, rotting and...

Engadget: Asus Eee Top ET2002 reviewed, thoroughly enjoyed

The kids at Liliputing got their hands on the Asus Eee Top ET2002 all-in-one recently and were cool enough to both put it through its paces and clue us in on their findings. According to the reviewer the device, which sports a 1.6GHz Dual Core Atom 330 processor, a 20-inch / 1600 x 900 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive, was "impressive... in many ways." It easily handles 1080p playback and video games that would cause "most Intel-Atom based PCs to choke." Aside from the ION graphics, unfortunately, this guy comports itself like a "typical" Atom netbook: unzipping large files takes forever, boot times are slow, and the system sometimes felt overtasked when browsing the web. Then again, when you're spending less than $600 on a machine (Amazon's currently selling 'em for $581) you're going to have to make some compromises. Hit the read link to see for yourself.

Science and the Shortcomings of Statistics

Kilrah_il writes "The linked article provides a short summery of the problems scientists have with statistics. As an intern, I see it many times: Doctors do lots of research but don't have a clue when it comes to statistics... and in the social science area it's even worse. From the article: 'Even when performed correctly, statistical tests are widely misunderstood and frequently misinterpreted. As a result, countless conclusions in the scientific literature are erroneous, and tests of medical dangers or treatments are often contradictory and confusing.'"

Engadget: Orange Music puts PC into guitar amp -- ours is not to reason why

Now this is an interesting one. Classic British amp maker Orange Music had a bit of a surprise behind its booth at the 2010 Musikmesse show. The O PC is, well, a guitar amp and a PC rolled into one convenient package. We didn't catch the processor, but there will be an option to use either the NVIDIA GeForce 9300 or ramp up to the 512MB ATI Radeon 5670. Standard fare is there, USB ports and WiFi, but no clue as to processor / memory. On the aural side of things, there's a stereo option for plugging in an extension speaker, a 1/4-inch guitar jack, basic EQ knobs, and yet-to-be-finalized modeling software -- nothing trial, everything full version, assures the Orange rep. Once that's sorted, the estimated ship time is two to four months, with price unmentioned. Video presentation after the break.

[Thanks, Hessel]

Techcrunch: What’s Next For Google Search? Two Icons May Hold The Clue

Posted by on under th image, google, search check, compas, techcrunch, denials, web results, aces, clue, denial, peoe, elements, images |

Over time, we've scooped things ranging from Facebook Places to various Chrome OS features simply by digging through code put out there in public. What's great about doing this is that it negates the inevitable non-denial denials from companies when you ask about these features. Code doesn't lie. Neither do images. And the latter may reveal two upcoming features destined for Google Search. Check out this image. It's a file Google uses in conjunction with CSS to style their web results pages. On it, you'll notice all the major navigational elements currently found on google.com are there -- but there are also two extra ones: the question mark and the people icon.
