Renewable energy is getting a lot of overdue attention, most of which goes to popular resources such as wind and solar. There is, however, an underdog that you may not have heard of: geothermal power. Geothermal literally means heat from the earth and that is exactly what geothermal power plants harness. While there is not [...]

Having a phone book land on my doorstep is like receiving 1,000 pieces of junk mail at the same time. A tremendous waste of paper and resources. I try to be green. But I wonder how many trees were taken out of doing their job of producing oxygen for the Earth so I could get a book I put directly in the recycling bin. I often talk about recycling in my blogs and I honestly can't tell if the city is happy or not about phone book day in my town. They collect the recycling and if they sell these ...

The late, great Michael Jackson once sang, "It doesn't matter if you're black or white." But when it comes to your roof, it really does matter. A black (or dark) roof absorbs heat on a sunny day--which is great in the winter--and a white roof reflects the sun--which is great in the summer. But for each roofing color, those advantages turn to disadvantages as the earth moves to the other side of the sun. Price comparison websites are not new by any means however www.Tools.com is the first I know that was specifically built for power tools, hand tools and accessories. There is a large selection of participating internet retailers such as Northern Tool, Amazon, Tool Barn, Tool King, Ohio Power Tool, CPO sites, and several others. The site claims over 90,000 tools from 500 brands. Since the site is still fairly new the reviews haven’t gotten filled in on many of the products yet (only 125 total thus far) but I am pretty confident over time these will be a really good resource for unbiased reviews. Perhaps they should give away Free T-shirts when you write 5 reviews like www.ToolCritic.com.
If you want to learn more about the back story for Tools.com there is a great interview article on www.ToolSnob.com. Here are just a few gems that you will find in the full post on ToolSnob:
How on earth did you manage to score that URL?
There are two stories. One is that we won it on a riverboat poker game from Mr. Tools in the late 1890s. The second one is that our partners owned the domain name and approached us with it.
If Tools.com was an animal, which one would it be and why?
A goat. Because their needs are so simple but they give so much - just like Tools.com. You know?
