Localizing Icy, Issues and more

Localizing Icy

As promised, here is the localization file containing strings that need to be translated to make Icy speak your native language.

Translating is fairly easy -- open the file in your favorite text editor that can handle Unicode, and then translate all the pairs of strings -- leave the left side intact, and translate the right side. Make sure it all stays in the quotes, like this:

"Hello" = "Aloha";

Then save the file and mail it to us at ripdev@me.com - and we'll try our best to include your language in the next minor update, which will follow fairly soon.

Update: German, Greek, Italian, Spanish and Swedish translations were submitted already - thanks guys!

Icy Won't Launch

If Icy is refusing to launch, then it will be extremely helpful if you could send us some crash logs -- these usually live in the /var/logs/CrashReporter/Icy...crash files on the iPhone or ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your device name>/Icy...crash on a Mac OS X (after the synchronization with the phone). We'll see what is causing this.

Ripdev Are Stealing Repo Owners Money?

There was a point running across certain community threads regarding Icy that by excluding the "depiction" and "more info" pages Ripdev is stealing money away from the repository owners. We'd like to clarify that in fact, we are not making any money off Icy -- there is no ads that run in it, and the whole point of the project is to provide a faster and lighter alternative to Cydia.

We all know that the competition boosts productivity and enhances products. In this case, as Icy and Cydia are inevitably going to compete in one way or another, this will tremendously benefit us, the end users.

As for the repository owners, some of them were upset with Icy 1.0 not even giving a chance for their information pages to show -- so this is why we have worked closely with The Big Boss and Fabiano Confuorto to work out a solution that makes the repository owners satisfied without slowing down the application down to the snail speeds. As a result, you can see a blue arrow button next to the package name that will lead you to the repository information page containing download stats, screenshots, and banners to support the repository. We encourage you to click on these often if you'd like to help repo maintainers.

And please, please remember -- this is not an evil plan to screw everyone, nor a holy crusade against repository owners -- we are, truly honestly just want to make your life a little bit brighter and easier. The positive feedback we receive every day helps us going and makes us sure we are moving in the right direction. So if you like or don't like something -- speak out, you will be heard.

Engadget: The Popcorn Hour C-200 media streamer makes its way into the wild

Popcorn Hour C-200 media streamer
It looks like Popcorn Hour's C-200 media streamer is making its way into end-users' hands, so prepare yourself for a flurry of reviews. Our friend Brent over at GeekTonic should be jumping into the fray soon, and has kicked things off with a preview. Yeah, the C-200 is bigger than its sibling A-100, but it brings so much to the table that we'd say Popcorn Hour has packed in just as much -- if not more -- goodness per cubic inch. With space available for a hard and/or Blu-ray drive, wired and wireless networking, and USB ports to round out the input connectivity, the C-200 then adds a smorgasbord of codec support just to make sure your bits will survive the translation back into entertainment. With the "it plays anything" kind of capability the C-200 is promising, we've got a feeling that a positive review or two might be the only thing standing between us and a $300 dent in our credit cards.

An Information Campaign

I have an unlock for 05.11.07. I will be releasing on 11/04/09, for $0.00

First off, Jody Sanders, I am declining your $10,000. Why? Because you, and the rest of the iPhone unlock sites out there are scum. You make money selling freeware; that's not cool, and I am in no way going to legitimize it.
Seriously, the people who really lose here are the customers. These sites are full of blatant lies, claiming to have unlocks for 05.11.07 People buy them, and are told the unlock is in development, and the release date is unknown. Imagine you bought a cup of coffee and were told it's in development? Recently, many of these sites sent out e-mails saying they made major breakthroughs and the unlock will be ready 11/04/09. Coincidence that that's the release date of blacksn0w?
I'm not going to post all these scam sites here, as I don't want to give them the pagerank boost. Rather I'll give you a whitelist, two people make unlocks, me and the dev team. Every iPhone unlock site you see out there is selling our stuff, repackaged in some form or another. Same goes for jailbreaks, although ih8sn0w and chronicdev are legit. Notice what all the legit ones have in common? They are free.
Now despite rumors of the ferocity of my legal team, they actually are pretty poor lawyers. And the scum who run these websites are the type who get off on legal battles. So we have to fight them in another way, and I'm asking for everyones help on this. Our weapon is information. Get the truth out, that all iPhone unlocks and jailbreaks are free, and if you are buying something, you aren't getting anything a simple google search couldn't get you, and are probably funding someones crack habit.
This is the first time I have tried to make something simple for the end users, and it enrages me to see people selling it. Let's shut all these assholes down, and tell the iPhone owning world all they need is at blackra1n.com, including blacksn0w instructions on it's release date, 11/04/09(yes, will support hacktivation). You do your part, and I'll do mine making things as simple, reliable, and straightforward as possible.

You have 4 days.

Ridgid Reputation Roadshow 2010 – Flyer Scavenger Hunt

Posted by on under ridgid seesnake micro, ridgid products, model cj, knowledgeable group, ctest, calendar girls, scavenger hunt, power tool, roadshow, end users, columbus ohio, nbsp, calendars, prizes, reputation, lunch, demo |

Each year Ridgid has a Reputation Roadshow where a knowledgeable group of Ridgid Reps travels the country and visit a few locations to meet with end users, demo new products, answer questions and help support their professional supply retailers. The events typically offer free Ridgid gear, lunch and the always popular Ridgid Calendar Girls to autograph calendars and take pictures.

To help promote the different event and get the word out there this year there is also a weekly Flyer Scavenger Hunt contest where you can win prizes even if you never make it to the show. This week (5/3/2010) the prize is a Ridgid Seesnake Micro ($223, Ohio Power Tool) which is well worth a few mouse clicks in my mind.

Below is the video from last year’s show at Ohio Power Tool where Ridgid Model CJ Perry helped promote some of the new Ridgid products in Columbus, Ohio.
