Well know for their large hydraulic equipment Power Team has built portable high tonnage jacks specific for lifting rail cars and heavy equipment. The jacks range from 60 to 200 tons and are powered by air or electric. There are several different options such as pumps, height, tonnage, remote control and other features that can be customized but most commonly units are ordered in pre-configured arrangements. Some times known as power risers or power lifts the portable lifts are easy to maneuver around while still capable of lifts incredible amounts of weight.
Models PLE6014 & PLA6014 are specifically built as “Railroad Edition” models for maintenance on locomotives and railcars. The jacks come equipped with extensions to match most applications with up to a maximum lifting height of 70”. Both units also feature 20 ft remote controls, adjustable handle, foam filled tires and patented lowering valves for smooth, safe lowering. The main difference is the PLE6014 is powered by 1-1/8 HP 110/115 VAC using 25 amps of electric power. The PLA6014 is powered by a rotary air pump which uses 50 CFM at 80 psi.

Previously we had highlighted some of the advantages of the Atlas Copco hydraulic hand held power tools. These types of tools have been very popular in Europe and other countries for year but are just now gaining ground in the US and Canadian markets. Hydraulic tools have several advantages over electric or pneumatic including more power, longer life span, compact power source, less maintenance, ability to work in colder temperature or even underwater and the list goes on. The main downside is in the higher initial price tag for the tools however when taken over the life of the tool the total cost is significantly less.
A common misconception is that a company would have a large startup cost associated with using hydraulic power tools because they would need to invest in the power packs to run the tools. With the current state of the economy and tight lending from the banks none of us are eager to make any large capital investments. Good news is you may have already made the big capital investment for plentiful hydraulic power supplies if you own any skid steers, backhoes or any other hydraulic powered carriers. Now it is time to get the most out of those investments. You can connect auxiliary hydraulic equipment to almost all of these machines. Atlas Copco has released the LFD 20 & LFD 30 Oil Flow Dividers specifically designed to regulate oil flow to all their hydraulic breakers, chipping hammers, concrete saws, water pumps, core drills and other tools.
If you have any questions at all, of course you can contact Ohio Power Tool and talk to their expert staff to help you determine which tool is right for the job. If you want to get you hands on some of these tools for a few days to try out, you can rent them through the equipment rental page.

Several months ago SPX Power Team announced a new line of Predator Torque Wrenches and Electric Hydraulic Pumps. These new torque wrenches are serious tools putting out up to 28,800 ft. lbs. of torque on hex bolts as large as 6-1/8”. Unless you plan on building you own roller coaster or 80ft wind turbine in your back yard these tools obviously aren’t for the DIYers.
This new generation of electric torque wrench pump feature much higher flow and automatic cycle operation both of which result in higher productivity. The Predator pump can be operated continuously, and also features low amperage operation and low sound level. These pumps are not build for lifting as the valves are not set up for load holding. See the chart below to understand how these compact pumps can operate at up to twice the speed of typical 2 speed pump.

In addition to the Predator electric powered hydraulic pumps are the new and durable steel square drive and low clearance torque wrenches. This new generation torque wrench features more efficient and faster operation in an envelope size that is 2/3rds the size of aluminum wrenches, allowing the tool to be used in applications where space is limited, yet is still comparable in weight.
Ohio Power Tool sells a wide range of the new Predator Torque Wrenches, Electric Pumps as well as the necessary high torque sockets. Typically configuring a proper hydraulic system of any kind is going to take some professional expertice. As always if you have any questions on any hydraulic equipment feel free to give the pros at Ohio Power Tool at call 800-242-4424 or email sales@ohiopowertool.com.

This type of stuff is always interesting to us just to see how groups configure their hydraulic systems for large jobs like this one. We deal with Power Team Hydraulic Equipment on a daily basis, and whether the job is small or very large every situation brings different challenges. That being said if you ever need help configuring a hydraulic system do not hesitate to call Ohio Power Tool 888-242-4424; there are several guys who have decades of experience and will be happy to lend a hand. In the meantime check out the challenge/solution documented by Power Team below.
Situation: Considered a landmark building, a museum in the United Kingdom was undergoing a $67m renovation to transform the magnificent Victorian building and its facilities into a world-class, 21st century visitor experience for Scotland — and a showcase for international visitors. The project included the creation of 14 new galleries, two hands-on discovery centers, a larger gallery for international touring exhibitions, new facilities for education and a state-of-the-art learning center. A new floor was also to be created beneath the main hall, forming a new street level entrance, restaurant, shop, cloakroom and visitor reception area. During the renovation project, more than half of the museum property was to stay open to the public.
