So thanks to the magic of an activation emulator and the original work of Dvd Jon, I got the activation/unlock record of a French unlocked iPhone. The field looks like
"UnlockCode" = "NO=111111111111111&";
with the 1's replaced by the code. "NO" is the lock type. There are fifteen digits, so I'm pretty sure the NCK length is 15. This is out of range of a bruteforcer, and I doubt, although its possible, that the NCK's are based off the IMEI/DevID. I would think Apple just has a big lookup table. Although any visible pattern would shorten the brute force time. So I still really need a.plists off legal unlocked phones.

As we
first reported last night, Apple is
finally allowing live streaming video applications into the App Store. Apple's acceptance of the Ustream Live Broadcaster has seemingly paved the way for other live-streaming apps. And one of the best known ones,
Qik, is wasting little time to get its app out there. The company
writes in a blog post today that they've already submitted their app for approval. I've actually had the Qik live-streaming app on my iPhone for a while, thanks to the magic of ad-hoc distribution. Unfortunately, Apple's policies restrict the number of copies Qik can send this way, so the application remained mostly a proof-of-concept for most people. Given how quickly Qik submitted the app to the store, we expect the official build that will likely get approved to be the same one we have been using, which
we reviewed here. It's solid, but the video quality leaves a little to be desired compared to some competing video apps (none of which did live streaming).

There's been a lot of press about Aquaponics and sustainable fish farming cropping up lately, so I wanted to share this astonishingly beautiful example: Sepp Holzer lives on a mountaintop in Austria, where he casually but thoughtfully manages a fish farm that provides all of his food, clean water, income, and electricity through nothing but a series of carefully placed pond systems. Gravity pulls the water from pond to pond, and little micro-organism-eating fish are gradually replaced by bigger and bigger predatory fish until he has clean water and full-sized trout! It's so simple it might seem like magic, but it's actually cooler than that. You can watch another short profile about Holzer's paradise here, and go here to see Eco Film's entire series on Permaculture....
