Recently Bosch has introduced 2 new circular saw blades specifically designed for cutting fiber cement siding and backerboard. The CB704FC & CB706FC blades are specifically designed for cutting through this tough material and also to keep dust to a minimum. One of the most common problems working with fiber cement products is the large amount of dust produced when making cuts. To combat the problem other companies have actually produced saws with vacuum attachments. This is a good solution but pricy and you end up with more tools on the job.
The new Bosch Fiber Cement Blades are much more cost effective and do a significantly better job at reducing dust when compared to traditional blades. The new blades feature less contact points and deep gullets to divert the dust. You can see in the video below the dust in a well ventilated area is kept to a minimum.

The Ingersoll Rand IQv Cordless power tool line has found a serious following among the automotive crowds and many others. These tools are engineered for use in professional shop and manufacturing facilities. The whole system is very intelligently designed with cheaper NiCd and Lithium batteries that work with each voltage of tools, all which share the single charger and flashlight that work with all of them.
The IQv charger automatically detects battery voltage and chemistry and chooses the correct charge algorithm. By reading the battery, the charger can optimize its charge to improve performance and longevity. The chargers renew feature deep cycle restores the battery to like-new condition and calibrates onboard battery electronics. For nickel-cadmium batteries, the renew feature eliminates memory effect, extending the usable battery life up to five times and significantly decreasing the number of replacement batteries over the life of the tool. The kit includes the W150 3/8” impact, D550 drill, TL10 flashlight, 2 14.4V lithium ion batteries, BC10 universal charger and an Ingersoll Rand tool bag. At under $10 per 5 pack these saw blades might make a great stocking stuffer for any woodworker or handyman. At only a few cents more per blade who wouldn’t get the T308B jigsaw blades?

This is one of my favorite new gadgets for the year. Point and shoot for the temperature of any surface. Obviously this is a great tool for plumbing, electrical or HVAC guys but there are all sorts of practical uses for anyone. Just recently I used one to get ready for winter around my house. Point and shoot at all the windows and doors and you will get a great idea where you are losing all your heat. Probably would pay for itself in the first 15 minutes you get it out of the box in December. Price for the IR-100 is $117 at Ohio Power Tool.

I would say the Dremel Multi-Max is the #1 holiday gift for the tool lover in 2008. The price point is perfect at $99 and it is quickly becoming the most popular oscillating tool in the market. The kit includes the basics to get started but the great part is their accessories are very inexpensive with additional accessories expected in early 2009.
