Panasonic's newly released concepts for home design would excite even the Jetsons. The technology involved is truly amazing. Panasonic has already built a working model of their concept home in Tokyo, which is open to the public. Here are just a few of the amenities that it boasts:-A bed that senses your decreased heart rate when you fall asleep. The TV and lights then power off.-Office with a facial recognition security system and a 70-inch screen for web conferencing.-Earthquake-proof ...

Engadget: ROPID the adorable humanoid can jump 3-inches into the air, sweep you off your feet

It's been a while since we've seen a humanoid robot this size do anything very new or interesting -- mostly they seem busy with their slow-mo dance moves -- but the new ROPID bot by Tomotaka Takahashi, the man behind Panasonic's Evolta bots, not only has a few new tricks up its plastic sleeves, but has personality to spare. The bot can rotate its upper torso, which seems to help immensely in keeping it balanced while jumping, running and skipping around. It's still the tried-and-true "bent knees" method of balance, but ROPID is "rapid" enough to make it look almost lifelike. The movements are expressive enough, but with some slightly articulated hands and a moving mouth, ROPID ups the adorable-ness factor over some of its nuts and bolts counterparts. ROPID can also respond to a few voice commands and speaks as well. Takahashi designed and built the bot himself, which makes us wonder what we've been doing with our lives that's so-very-important for the past couple of decades. Video of ROPID in action is after the break.

We can't say that a luminescent color-changing finish is among our top concerns when shopping for a new TV, but if it's high on your list (or is now), you might want to consider one of Panasonic's new Viera Pure LCDs, which promise to change color slightly depending on the lighting the room. In addition to that standout feature, you'll also get side LED backlighting on all four models (19, 22, 32, and 37-inch), plus an a built-in iPod dock on the two smaller TVs, and Panasonic's own Viera Cast service (complete with Skype) on the two larger models. Unfortunately, there's no word on a release over here just yet, but all four are apparently available in Europe immediately, and start at £400 (or just over $600). Head on past the break for the full press release.

Not to be confused with the affordable V-LUX 20 compact, the V-LUX 2 follows on from where the V-LUX 1 went four years ago—namely, mahoosive-zoom territory. In true Leica fashion, it's basically a pricier version than Panasonic's FZ100. More »
