Leading Internet companies long criticized by human rights groups for their business dealings in China -- including Google, Yahoo and Microsoft -- are agreeing to new guidelines that seek to limit what data they should share with authorities worldwide and when they should do so.

Digg: Yahoo Denies Giving Iran Names of 200,000 Protesters

We have no reason to suspect this is true, but a ZDNet blogger claims that Yahoo! has been passing personal information about Iranian protesters to Iran's government. In the last few minutes, Yahoo! has denied the claim. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers wonder if it could possibly be true. (YHOO)

Founded in 1994 as Beverly Hills Internet, what is now Yahoo GeoCities was one of the first services to offer an easy way for early Internet surfers to publish their own Web pages. Once the Internet's third most visited domain, it will be shutting down on Monday, Oct. 26.
