It's what the mobile music experience could be

This project started as I explored ways to view lyrics while listening to my music library on the iPod Touch. Ideas kept coming and I added some concepts (and code) from iMovieMash.com plus great content from the multitude of public video, music and search APIs.

The result was iMusicMash.com, an iPhone and Android G1 social web application that takes your music experience to a whole new level of enjoyment and discovery. You can start with the friends' playlists we already have or load your own iTunes music library. The interface is familiar as it mimics the iPhone's iPod. For each artist, we bring photos from Yahoo Boss Image Search, concert dates from Eventful, and live Twitter discussions. Then, for each song, we bring great YouTube videos, lyrics from LyricWiki, similar songs from Last.fm, and friends' songs for the same artist.

I recently added lyrics search and artist/title search.

iMusicMash was a winner in the Yahoo Developer Mashup contest at the recent Mashup Camp in Mt. View, California.

New Milwaukee 4.5" Grinders for Metalworking

Milwaukee has recently introduced 7 new 4.5" grinders aimed at the metalworking grinder market. These new grinders will compete directly with other top names currently dominating metalworking grinders such as Bosch, Makita and Metabo.

Some of the new features that will make Milwaukee competitive include: Debris Baffles, basically an engineered L-shape intake vents protect the motor and other components by deflecting debris particles out of the airflow before entering the grinder. Another feature is the Multi-Port Exhaust vents on all four sides of the gear case allow more hot air to escape preventing motor burn-up, others typically have only 2. Also Milwaukee uses a 25% Longer Lasting Epoxy Coating to increase tool life by preventing debris from damaging copper wires in the motor.

Some of the connivance and safety features include: Tool Free Adjustable Guard allowing the user to quickly adjust the guard without the use of a tool. Burst Resistant Guard Positive detents lock the guard in place so if a wheel burst, the guard is more secure and less likely to rotate. Finally the Soft Grip 3-Position Side Handle provides optimal control for any application.  Top position is ideal for cutting.

The reason there are 7 models is because for each version there are locking and non-locking triggers, for compliance reasons. Ohio Power Tool sells all 7 models call 800-242-4424 if you need any help determining which would be right for you.

Models Include: 6122-30 10AMP Rat Tail w/Lock, 6122-31 10AMP Rat Tail no Lock, 6148-30 10AMP Paddle w/Lock, 6148-31 10AMP Paddle no Lock, 6148-33 10AMP Slide Trigger w/lock, 6140-30 7.5AMP Paddle w/Lock, 6140-33 7AMP Slide Trigger w/lock

2010 International Builders Show, Almost Live

The days of waiting any amount of time to see what is new and hot from a trade show appear to be over. Today is the last day of the 2010 IBS show and already there are plenty of YouTube videos, twitter feeds (#ibs2010) and blog posts from the show. Of course there will be plenty more to come but this is a good start. We were going to attend but had to choose between this show and World of Concrete Feb. 2-5, which we will be attending in 12 days, stay tuned.

Wood Worker’s  Journal (YouTube) – One of our favorite woodworking personalities Chris Marshall, is currently on hand at the 2010 show and already has a dozen plus videos up on YouTube. Get more info and read recent blog posts from Chris Marshall.

Bob Villa, On The Level (Blog) – I’m sure Mr. Villa himself is held up in a Las Vegas hotel room tweeting and trying to knock these blog posts out each night after the show before making his way onto the strip for a little R&R… Ok maybe not but “On The Level” still offers a nice look at some of the new innovative consumer products from the show.

IBS2010 Video Booth (YouTube) – On the IBS2010 home page they have a link to YouTube (bottom of every page), apparently at the show they set up an almost live Video Booth where you can go in and talk about the show and be almost famous.

Sears Blue Crew (YouTube) – If you are interested in some of the new craftsman products these guys have several videos up already from the “Garage of Innovations” set up just outside the convention center.

These are just a few of the different online media sources for info from the 2010 International Builders Show and many more will be popping up over the next few days.

What One iPhone Improvement Do You Want for Christmas? [Contest Results]

Posted by iPhoneChris on under bluetooth earpiece, iphe, veriz, voice feature, open carrier, new email, tario, flash media, phe, youtube videos, lori, champagne, lt, sync, texts, holidays, photos, photo |

What one iPhone improvement do you want for the holidays? I asked readers to chime in for a chance to win some donated iPhone accessories, and here is what they said:

Lori Attack —

I love my 3G iphone and I use it all the time. In Ontario we are not allowed to talk on the phone while driving so I have a bluetooth earpiece. Problem – I can’t call out because the 3G doesnt have voice activated calling. I would love an update that would fix this.

xbbradley –

I would love to see a flash added to the camera. Would be great to fire off
a flash when needed to add light to photos at certain times.

itasara –

I would like :
  1. a glass or glass substitute that DOES NOT BREAK or at least a special protective cover that will prevent breakage that Apple provides since they charge so much for repairs.
  2. replaceable battery that I can change myself
  3. open carrier so I can move to a company with better coverage
  4. Definitely want an earpiece like I used to have at Verizon that lets you call the no. you want without touching the phone. The voice feature on the newest OS is nice, but still required looking at the phone while driving which is not good enough.

Ritchie Champagne –

I’d love it if my iPhone wouldn’t completely stop responding when it’s receiving an email. I’ll be typing away and there’s no response for a bit. Suddenly, I get the audible notice for new email. Also, I’d love it if I could assign ringtones to texts so that I know who is texting me without looking.

Anne –

I love my iPhone 3G but there are a few changes I would love to see. Can I mention a few?

The one that would make me the most happy is for my iPhone to be able to sync with the Tasks list in Outlook on my PC. It will sync my calendar and my notes but not my to do list.

I would also love it if the iphone would support Flash media. It can show youtube videos so why not other short videos, like ones people post on facebook?

I would also like it if you could disable the sound that the camera makes when it takes a photo.

Shannon M. —

I want a keyboard that folds out or even that attaches so that I can actually type a document or email that is lengthy without having to get on my computer and lug my laptop around. I seriously can really only type with one finger on their stupid keyboard. how hard would it be? come on, Apple!!

Richard Regan –

I would like to have more than one app open at a time. And beef up the battery to make this possible.

Steven –

they need to make it where we can run more than 1 app at a time

Jim –

front facing camera
outgoing s/mms previews
background youtube playing
multitask. even just a few apps
call log editing
ipod integrated sleep /wake timer function
flash support
better battery life

Dakota –

i think it would be great to give the iphone camera the option to take pictures in black and white etc. and give the camera and video better quality

Congratulations to Lori Attack, Itasara, Anne, Richard Regan, Steven, and xbbradley for winning the drawing for iPhone gear. Thanks again to the following companies for donating the gifts for this contest.

  1. Pro-Fit International
  2. FSP Group
  3. Bicio
  4. Otterbox
  5. Ten One Design
  6. Just Mobile

Feel free to add your iPhone improvement to the discussion by commenting on this post. Thanks and Happy Holidays!
